Implant dentistry in Henderson, NV
Dental implants are one of the most ideal ways to replace missing teeth and restore function to the teeth and jaw. They alleviate the stress of chewing from the adjacent teeth and evenly distribute it among the teeth and the implant. If you are missing multiple teeth, implants can restore your ability to chew and eat properly, and smile with confidence.
A dental implant is made of two elements: a post (root) and a restoration (crown). The post is usually made of titanium: the same material used in many replacement hips and knees, and a metal that is well-suited to pairing with human bone. The restoration is attached to the post, and can be permanently adhered or removable. Permanent teeth are more stable and feel more like natural teeth.
Implants, bridges, or dentures?
Implants allow Dr. Stoker to replace a missing tooth without damaging the adjacent teeth. When a bridge is done, the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth must be ground down and crowned. This takes a one-tooth problem (the missing tooth) and creates a three-tooth problem (missing tooth and adjacent teeth). Also, bridging the area where a tooth is missing makes it impossible to pass floss down between the teeth. Now, because of the bridge, we have made it even harder to floss, which is not a recipe for long-term success.
Dentures also replace missing teeth but they are not a replacement for teeth; they are a replacement for no teeth. Dentures only restore approximately 20-30 % of your chewing ability. They also affect the way food tastes and the way you talk. Implants on the other hand restore almost full chewing ability and do not alter taste or talking.
Why choose Stoker Family Dental for your implant?
Many general dentists do not provide the surgical aspect of implant placement; they outsource to an oral surgeon. When you choose Stoker Family Dental for your implant, all aspects of your care, from your implant surgery through implant restoration, will be completed by Dr. Stoker right here in our Henderson, NV dental office. Dr. Stoker has undergone extensive continuing education and training in implant placement and restoration, allowing him to control all aspects of your care.
Dr. Stoker uses a highly advanced surgical guide for implant placement. All implants are placed digitally using implant software and then placed in a 3D printed model of your jaw prior to being placed. By doing this, the complications or unknown situations are resolved prior to the actual placement of the implant.
Your recovery time depends on your specific oral health and complexity of your procedure. Care of the mouth following surgery is very important for proper healing. Dr. Stoker will give you all the post-op information you need to guarantee your implant’s success.
In general, you may drink cool liquids as soon as you get home. Do not eat or drink anything hot until your numbness subsides. Limit your diet to liquid and soft foods for the next week, or as otherwise instructed. Get plenty of rest the first 24 hours. For the first two nights after the procedure, sleep in a recliner chair or with your head propped up with extra pillows. If you keep your head above your heart for the next two days, it will significantly cut down on post-operative swelling. The less swelling the less pain!
Taking Care of Your Implant
Dental implants can last for decades if properly taken care of. Statistically, the survival rate of implants after ten years ranges from 82-94%! Just like natural teeth, implants need to be brushed, flossed, and professionally cleaned by one of our hygiene professional twice a year. With proper care, implants and restorations don't fade, weaken, or change appearance.
